Bealdor

Products, little tools and commissioned software, kept simple.

Independent projects

From the Workbench

Independent projects, experiments, and assorted bits of software from behind the scenes at Bealdor.

These are Luke's personal and open-source projects, not Bealdor products. For those, see Products.

No. 1 · Music player

Ember

Written in C, using GTK3, libmpdclient and MPD.

A classic-style music player for MPD. It follows the old iPad Music app before it became Apple Music: an album grid, tabs for playlists, songs, artists and genres, album and artist pages, and an iTunes-style mini player.

It is a small, traditional desktop application. MPD plays the music and keeps the library; Ember is the GTK3 frontend, so it stays light on old machines. It needs only GTK3 and libmpdclient, and runs MPD as your user.

No. 2 · Web apps on the desktop

Shore

Written in C, using GTK and WebKitGTK.

A lightweight Linux utility that runs websites as standalone desktop applications. shore add notion notion.so gives a site its own window, launcher entry, icon and login, kept apart from your browser and from every other web app.

It uses the system's WebKitGTK with a small C program around it. One 60 KB binary runs every app, with no build step per site, so Debian's security updates to WebKitGTK reach every app at once.

No. 3 · Desktop environment

Kindling

Shell scripts and configuration for Openbox, tint2, rofi and dunst.

A lightweight desktop for old machines, themed from your wallpaper. No Qt, no Python and no systemd: it is built on Devuan and works on Debian too.

It comes with small helpers of its own, such as a one-shot night light and kd-doctor, a read-only, one-screen health check.
